St Martins Hotel and Stratford Johns

The St Martin's Hotel, situate on Upper St Martin's Lane, was owned by the actor Stratford Johns, of Z Cars fame. It was cheap and very convenient, close by 'The Nucleus' and 'The Farm', and on the edge of Soho. Mainly inhabited by people in the entertainment business, much coming and going deep into the night. I stayed there for several, most contented months. In the present day it would have been closed, I am sure, as a fire hazard, no fire escapes and only narrow wooden staircases. It closed in 1976.
