Sam Widges, Soho, London

widges02Sam Widges was a famous 1950s and 1960s coffee bar and beatnik hangout located on the corner of Berwick Street and D'Arblay Street in Soho, London. It was here I discovered Modern Jazz, the jukebox only played jazz recordings. I even working there for a while. I also played with the band every Saturday night in the clubs it ran in the basement. Famously, it was where the great alto saxophonist Peter King was discovered by Ronnie Scott.
